Pear and Strawberry Healthy Rice Pudding for Baby

Pear and Strawberry Healthy Rice Pudding for Baby

As a mama, I try to make sure that the food I prepare for my daughter is nutritionally dense, easily digestible and as close to nature as possible. I’m always looking for ways to take traditional meals and make them healthier for her. Rice Pudding is traditionally made on cows milk with added sugar and is served with a dollop of jam on top. I wanted to take this idea and turn it into a dessert that I would be happy giving to my daughter.

This pear and strawberry healthy rice pudding for baby is one of her favourites and I’ve made it to be dairy free and free from refined sugars, it is only sweetened by the fruit. It’s full of fibre and antioxidants with a dose of healthy fats from the coconut milk. It’s perfect for babies with an allergy or intolerance to dairy and can easily be adapted to use up any fruit you may have on hand. If your child is allergic to strawberries, blueberries are a good substitute and the pear can easily be replaced by apple.

A few of the other combinations I use to make this pudding are

  • Apple & Blueberry
  • Pear & Mango
  • Pear & Mixed Berries

Yields 2

  1. 1/2 cup of basmati rice
  2. 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  3. 250g of strawberries, hulled and quartered
  4. 1 pear, peeled and grated
  5. 1 cup coconut milk
  1. Place the rice into a medium saucepan and pour over boiling water. Cover and place on low/medium heat for 10 mins.
  2. Once rice is cooked, add in strawberries and pear with coconut milk. Continue to simmer until fruit is cooked and soft (add more water if mixture begins to get too thick).
